Installation Notes - AudioAnalyzer

Computer Requirements
Oracle(Sun's) Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.8 or better. This can be obtained from http://www.java.com
Installation
Upon first execution of the eightolives' AudioAnalyzer, relevant software files are installed in the .eightolives directory located in your user directory.

AudioAnalyzer is normally provided as a .tar.gz file or an executable install file (Windows). Files are installed in the user's home directory. A directory, ".eightolives", established in the user's home directory contains a subdirectory, "AudioAnalyzer", which contains all required and created files.

The program is first downloaded by Registered Users logging in to the eightolives' User Login Page with AudioAnalyzer as the selected product.

You become a Registered User by purchasing an eightolives AudioAnalyzer subscription from the eightolives store.

Windows Installation:
When you log in to the User Login Page, your browser will prompt you to save the EightolivesInstall.exe file in your Downloads directory. When downloaded, execute it to install and respond to the prompts.

Starting the Program on Windows
The program is normally started by executing: user_home\.eightolives\AudioAnalyzer\AudioAnalyzer

Linux Installation: When you log in to the User Login Page, your browser will prompt you to save the EightolivesInstall.tar.gz file in your Downloads directory. When downloaded, use a shell window and execute the commands:
   tar -xvzf EightolivesInstall.tar.gz
   ./EightolivesInstall/EightolivesInstall

Starting the Program on Linux
The program is normally started by executing: user_home/.eightolives/AudioAnalyzer/AudioAnalyzer

Setting Preferences

The AudioAnalyzer menu bar has a Preferences option which allows you to set various parameters. See the User Manual if you wish to specify your own preferences.

Two preferences which you may need to modify are the executable paths to your preferred web browser and your preferred PDF reader. Use the menu options Preferences > Set Browser Path and Preferences > Set PDF Reader Path and locate the appropriate executable files for each program.

Calibration

AudioAnalyzer's audio inputs and outputs are affected by the various volume controls that support the PC's audio system. In order to have audio levels accurately reported by AudioAnalyzer, you need to perform calibration. Calibration can be done manually using an external audio cable and oscilloscope or AC Voltmeter. It can also be easily done automatically using the eightolives' Protection / Calibration Unit (EPCU) which is included in the AudioAnalyzer Kit. The menu option Tools > Calibrate initiates a sequence of dialog boxes that prompt you through either calibration process. See the presentation AudioAnalyzer Calibration for detailed information.
