Hints for Finding Connections in eightolives Trains

The Find Connections feature lets you plan a trip from point A to point B using the trains and bus schedules supported by Trains.

You select the "From" and "To" stops, the "Start time" and "Upcoming Day". Clicking the Get Connections button starts the process and the Find Connections button will display a red background. When complete, the trip options results will be displayed.

The tool is still in development and sometimes solutions won't be found. Please send feedback with the settings you used and we'll try to resolve any issues. The Report window displays some information on the "thought process" used.

Sometimes trip strategies may be found but no itineraries can be found for those strategies. This can happen if you start a long journey late in the day. Try the search with early start time to see if a solution can be found. Sometimes only one leg of a multi-leg trip may be the culprit. Unchecking the Hide Bad Connections box will allow you to examine "bad solutions" to get insight on an issue.

The Change Time parameter or minimum time to make a connection has a default of 2 mins which is the estimate used for cross-platform transfers for Metro North and New Jersey Transit where trains are meant to connect. Setting it to a higher number if you are unfamiliar with a transfer stop or require more time to change vehicles may hide those quick, intended transfers from the solution set potentially adding much waiting time to your trip.

Not all subway or local bus lines are always on schedule, but typically run at frequent intervals so that missing one and taking another might be the reality. Having some wait time before a train departure can be a good thing.

Schedule data from some carriers is only downloaded when needed. It's a good idea that you check that the needed carriers are loaded by selecting an appropriate stop or trip.
